  • Sow directly outdoors from March – July (under cloches in March)
  • Sow seeds in drills 3cm (1″) deep and 10cm (4″) apart in rows 30cm (12″) apart
  • Seeds can be sown in cell trays but need to be transplanted out as seedlings (a less reliable method)
  • Each ‘seed’ produces several seedlings which will need to be thinned out when they reach 3cm (1″) high
  • To produce baby beets, thin seedlings to just 5cm (2″) apart then pull them when they are about the size of a golf ball
  • Protection from birds may be necessary
  • Sow monthly for succession cropping
